Richard Feynman begeistert in diesem Buch mit diversen Anekdoten aus seinem Leben. Es sind lustige, interessante, aber auch zum Nachdenken anregende Geschichten aus seinem Leben, die diese Biographie so lesenswert machen.Feynman war ein sehr antiautoritärer Mensch, der stets den Status Quo in Frage stellte und Regeln, die er für sinnlos erachtete, einfach ignorierte. Er hielt nichts von Preisverleihungen und jeglichem Pomp zugunsten einer Person. Dies führte dann, wie von ihm im Buch sehr amüsant erzählt, zu lustigen Ereignissen rund um den Nobelpreis, den er zusammen mit Kollegen 1965 gewann.Richard Feynman war und bleibt aufgrund seiner Art, gegen ihm völlig schwachsinnig vorkommende Sachverhalte humorvoll zu rebellieren, eine Inspiration Jener, die sich im Alltag oft von sinnfreien Vorschriften und abstrusen Regelungen veräppelt vorkommen. Er würde natürlich dagegen protestieren, wenn ihn jemand als Inspiration bezeichnet.Das Buch ist an erster Stelle eine tolle Sammlung an Anekdoten und Geschichten aus seinem Leben, die chronologisch angeordnet sind und aus verschiedenen Lebensabschnitten erzählen. Es geht um viel Physik, Reisen und persönliche Erlebnisse. Mehr muss ich eigentlich nicht sagen...Die Genialität des alten Meisters, der selbst nie übermäßigen Respekt vor seinen eigenen Meistern hatte, ist in den Anekdoten detailverliebt erzählt - aber nie so, dass der Eindruck entsteht, er wolle seine Genialität auf ein Podest stellen. Nein, vielmehr ist es wie der unvermeidbare, natürliche Fluss der Dinge, wenn er als Kind berühmt wird durch "Fixing Radios by Thinking", aus purem Sport Safes in Los Alamos knackt und damit die Militärs auf die Palme bringt oder keinen Plan von technischen Zeichnungen hat und trotzdem mit einer einzigen Frage an die verblüfften Ingenieure zur Legende wird.Einfach nur Klasse - kurz: Nicht nur für Physiker ein Muss!

Das Buch an sich war mir vorher unbekannt. Dennoch ist es mir des öfteren aufgefallen, als ich wissenschaftliche Veröffentlichungen durchgelesen habe. Aus unterschiedlichsten Bereichen wurde dort dieses Buch zitiert (in meinem Beispiel Ameisenpheromone sowie "lucid dreaming" und das Manhattan Projekt). Dass dieses Buch derart vielfältig ist, habe ich nicht geglaubt, daher wuchs meine Neugier.Es ist durchaus witzig (auf seine eigene Art) und hat eine Art altbackenen Humor, welchen ich persönlich sehr mag. Auch fachlich kommt man nicht zu kurz, auch wenn viele Anspielungen ein gewisses Grundwissen voraussetzen.Ein Buch welches sich lohnt öfter durchzulesen und vor allem über das Gelesene nachzudenken. Preiswert und gut.

He lived and spoke and consorted with people and in places most stuffed-shirt "orthodox" "scientists" -- who have learned much and thought little -- would never wish to be seen with or in -- and describes his marvellous adventures -- shot through with his sometimes wicked sense humour of insight into our rote lives -- in a wonderful book that is definitely a KEEPER. I first read it many years ago and it is the ONLY book I ever read through and then immediately started again at the beginning.

The best quality of this book is how interesting it is. I knew who Feynmann was but I never got to know what made him the acclaimed physics he was and now I know. Surfing the internet I read many comments about what kind of person he was, because honestly by reading the book, you can conclude he wasn't the best person in the world, his way of fooling around and the way he acted most of the time weren't the best. But I think that because of this and the fact he was one of the greatest physics of that time we can conclude how he actually wasn't special at all. He had just that curiosity since he was a kid that led to a very successful career in the world of physics. Now I'm not saying he wasn't a smart person because he actually was but curiosity played a big role in his life. So, this is definitely an easy reading, something you can read without worrying too much about the content of the book, but nonetheless this book encourages the reader to be more curiose about his/her everyday life.

A must read if you believe Feynman to be a curious, funny, and generally just an interesting guy. I would recommend watching some YouTube videos of Feynman before reading this, such as to get a feeling for how he thinks and speak. Optimally (in my opinion) is to read this book alongside the audiobook (they did a greay job with it.) I bought the hardcover version of the book and the quality is good, my friend lend me the audio book.After reading this book you might inherit a bit of Feynman's genius. I recommend this book to all people, not just physicist or scientist.
